When your Model's Login Type setting is set to Basic, Excel or Power BI saves your username and password to authenticate automatically when connecting to OData Feed.

For the authentication to work correctly, your credentials must be saved at the correct URL level. User credentials are only valid from the account-level address onwards (e.g. https://data.odatalink.com/my-account).

If the credentials for accessing account-level data were saved against the root address (https://data.odatalink.com/). the system will attempt to authenticate at root level, resulting in error.

After updating your OData Feed's credentials in Microsoft Power BI or Microsoft Excel, if you're still getting Error 7001, you will need to Clear Permissions for that data source in Data Source Settings

Steps

  1. Go to Data Source settings
    1. Microsoft Power BI Users: Click on Transform Data dropdown in Home menu and then the Data Source settings option.
    2. Microsoft Excel Users: Click on the Get Data button, then select Data Source Settings.
  2. Data Source Settings dialog box will appear. Select the Global Permissions radio button from the top of the dialog box.
  3. Select the required OData source from the list of saved data sources. It would be of the format: https://data.odatalink.com/.
  4. Click on Clear Permissions button.
  5. A new Clear Permissions dialog box will be displayed. Click on Delete button.
  6. Now close all the dialog boxes and Refresh your report. You will be asked to enter your credentials again.
  7. Enter your credentials, select the Account level feed or below from the Level dropdown, and click Save.
